The month of March closed with 20 fewer people unemployed on the island of Lanzarote, which is equivalent to a decrease of 0.3% to a total of 7,358 people, according to data provided by the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan).
Compared to a year ago, the decrease is 4.8%, that is, 367 fewer people unemployed, since at the end of March last year the number of unemployed amounted to 7,725 people.
However, there were large differences between municipalities. The largest decrease in unemployment was in Teguise, with a decrease of 4%, which is equivalent to 45 fewer people unemployed. Thus, the total number of unemployed in the municipality of Teguise amounts to 832 people.
Unemployment also decreased in Arrecife, which went from 3,732 unemployed at the end of February to 3,705 at the end of March, and in Haría, where six people left the unemployment lists in March, bringing the total number of unemployed in the north of the island to 296 people.
On the other hand, unemployment rose in San Bartolomé, which added 24 more unemployed to a total of 897, and in Yaiza, where 18 more people signed up for unemployment, bringing the total in the south to 543 people unemployed.
There were also five more unemployed in Tías, so that its total amounts to 781 people unemployed.
In Tinajo, where there were hardly any changes, there are 304 people unemployed.
