The ONCE Foundation, through its entity Inserta Empleo, for the training and employment of people with disabilities, held in the Hotel Beatriz Costa & Spa in Costa Teguise this Wednesday the meeting of the Talentos program, co-financed by the European Social Fund within the framework of the Social Inclusion and Social Economy Operational Program (Poises).

The initiative consists of bringing the talent of people with disabilities closer to companies to promote their hiring through a series of meetings in which companies can learn about the advantages of having people with disabilities on their staff.

The event held in Lanzarote is the first of a series of events that will take place in the Islands of La Palma, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura. Under the slogan 'Meetings with talent', the initiative arrives for the first time in the Canary Islands and will also be developed in Murcia, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Asturias and Galicia between the months of June and October.

Emma Fernández, regional director of Inserta Empleo in the Canary Islands, highlighted the opportunity offered by the initiative in Lanzarote, where “most small companies have difficulty accessing practical information on employment and disability”. The entity hopes to increase the number of specific contracts, from the 50 that were concluded last year to 70 this year.

The regional director also insisted on the need to achieve real inclusion through the incorporation into the labor market of the talent of people with disabilities, which in the Canary Islands represents 5.7% of the active population.
