The Council of Ministers has approved a royal decree that simplifies and improves the subsidy for the unemployed who have exhausted their contributory benefit or are not entitled to unemployment benefits.

The initial amount of the subsidy increases to 570 euros from the 480 that were charged until now and it will no longer be necessary to be over 45 years of age or have family responsibilities as was the case until now.

When does it come into effect and what are the amounts?

The reform will come into effect in June and those who exhaust unemployment benefits from April 30 can take advantage of it.

The main novelty is that the amount increases to 95% of the IPREM for the first six months, that is, 570 euros, 90% for the following semester and the rest, as until now, 80%, which is equivalent to 480 euros.

Who can collect it?

Those unemployed without family responsibilities and who do not have sufficient contributions to collect the contributory benefit no longer need six months of contributions to access the subsidy. From a contribution of three months (or 4 or 5) they can access a subsidy of the same duration

They are thus equated to the unemployed with family responsibilities. The difference between the two groups is now found from six months of contributions, since for those with family responsibilities, six months of contributions will be equivalent to 21 months of subsidy

Those under 45 years of age without family responsibilities who currently cannot collect it will also be able to access it, although the conditions will be more strict. They will need to have exhausted a benefit of 360 days or more, compared to the 120 days required for those over 45 years of age to access the same aid, six months of subsidy.

The subsidy reform also equates all unemployed people with family responsibilities, age will no longer be relevant. In this case, if the exhausted benefit has been equal to or greater than 120 days, they will be able to access the subsidy for 24 months

Another novelty of the reform is that working for others and receiving the subsidy will be compatible for a period of 180 days for each new full-time or part-time job without reducing the amount.

Economic conditions

The income criterion remains the same. Beneficiaries cannot have income exceeding 75% of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SIM).

To qualify for the cases of family responsibilities, they must prove that the sum of the income of all the people who make up the family unit is below 75% of the SIM.

To facilitate the procedures, it will be enough to present a responsible declaration of income that will be verified later.
