The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jessica de León, reported this Tuesday that technicians are visiting 208 hotels to assess ergonomic and psychosocial risks, and they, "and not an opportunistic politician", in allusion to the socialist Gustavo Santana, will propose measures to alleviate the workload of the maids.
Jessica de León responded in this way in the plenary session of the regional Parliament to a question from the socialist deputy Gustavo Santana on whether she considers the situation in which the maids of the accommodation establishments in the Canary Islands find themselves acceptable.
The Minister replied that their situation is not acceptable "neither now nor two years ago", and asked the parliamentarian to be "honest" because he was Deputy Minister of Employment in the previous regional Executive "and did not lift a finger in four years for the maids of the Canary Islands".
Previously, Gustavo Santana had accused the Minister of Tourism of putting the freedom of companies before the health of workers, in contrast to a bill in which the Socialist group asked to impose the installation of adjustable beds on hotels.
Jessica de León replied that there are 11 requests from hotels in this area and that half a million euros have been invested to acquire adjustable beds, so it is not necessary for this measure to be mandatory to implement it.
