The Government of Canarias has presented this Tuesday the appliance Renove plan, an initiative that will have a budget of 1.6 million euros to be distributed in vouchers with aid of up to 250 euros for general purposes and 450 for people in situations of vulnerability, with the aim of promoting the replacement of old appliances with others of greater energy efficiency.
The announcement took place at the headquarters of the Provincial Federation of Metal and New Technologies Companies (Femete) in Tenerife and was attended by the vice-president of the regional government, Manuel Domínguez, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Mariano Hernández Zapata, as well as the presidents of Femete, Juan Antonio Jiménez, and Femepa, Patricia Jiménez.
The plan, which will begin to operate from September 15 with the opening of applications for vouchers, which must be obtained before purchase in participating establishments, and will allow the renewal of up to five appliances per person.
These include "combi" refrigerators, dishwashers, dryers, washing machines, and induction hobs, in addition to including the delivery of the old appliance to be replaced as waste during the process, which according to the organizers will allow combining energy savings for households with economic support for buyers, the revitalization of stores, and the correct management of retired appliances.
Domínguez pointed out that "it has not been easy" for this project to move forward, as they have had several obstacles to overcome, because there are "no precedents" for an initiative like this that can help households save "nearly 1,000 euros annually" if all their low-consumption appliances are renewed.
"The economy is doing well when it is felt by the population, and it is felt when people get jobs, families save, and commerce sells more (...) The objective is clear: to help local commerce, to help Canary Islands families, particularly those with greater economic difficulties, and to help decarbonization in our land," indicated the vice-president of Canarias.
In this regard, Domínguez continued, the Renove plan will help to "advance towards an ecological transition and a circular economy" that could benefit about 10,000 families throughout the archipelago, thanks to close collaboration with employers' associations, to whom he thanked for their efforts in bringing these funds to the citizens.
Those interested in this aid must apply for the voucher before purchasing the appliance, through a digital platform, where it will be possible to prove their situation of vulnerability to access the reinforced amounts, and they will have a period of 15 days to redeem it in one of the stores participating in the program.
The campaign is scheduled to run until December 15, 2026, always subject to the availability of funds, which amount to 1.6 million euros with an initial allocation of 800,000 for each province.
