67.5% of residents in Lanzarote say they have difficulty making ends meet, according to a survey by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) on consumer confidence, conducted at the end of 2022 and collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.

The figure is double the 33.6% of Lanzarote residents who declared difficulties making ends meet in the last Canary Islands Sociobarometer, which is a different survey, and therefore with a different methodology, but it gives an idea that the domestic economies of the island are increasingly tight.

40.2% of the population declares having many difficulties in balancing their accounts, while 27.3% say they have certain difficulties.

On the other side of the spectrum, 24% of the island's inhabitants say they make ends meet with some ease and 8.5% declare they make ends meet with considerable ease.

With respect to the previous consultation carried out by ISTAC in the third quarter of last year, the people who have difficulties making ends meet on the island have increased by almost five percentage points, since then they were 62.8% of the population.

The survey also collects data on the current and future perception of the economic situation of households.

These indicators reflect at least that the number of Lanzarote residents who believe that the situation of their economies will improve in the future is increasing. While only 17.2% of the population believes that their economic situation is better than in the past, 25.9% believe that their situation will improve in the future.

At the same time, the percentage of people who consider that their domestic economy will be worse in the coming months, 35.4% of the population, is also considerably lower than that of those who consider that their economy is currently worse than in the past and which reached 46.1%.
