The Government of the Canary Islands has commissioned the Business for Agrarian Transformation, SA (TRAGSA), for an amount of 2,234,714.24 euros, the replacement of sodium vapor and mercury vapor luminaires with LED lighting systems in different sections of roads and tunnels in the archipelago. This measure improves the efficiency of luminous performance and electricity consumption.
The work will focus on the new El Bicho tunnel, on the TF-1 (Tenerife); in the La Ballena tunnel (Gran Canaria); in the Nuevo de la Cumbre tunnel (La Palma); on the GM-1 road, as it passes through the Hermigua crossing (La Gomera); in the Arrecife-Tahíche section, the LZ-1 (Lanzarote), and at the junction to the LZ-3 and on the FV-2, in the vicinity of the Las Rotondas Shopping Center (Fuerteventura).
No project has been included for the island of El Hierro because the drafting of the Los Roquillos tunnel project, which is already underway, will be taken into account, the Ministry of Public Works details in a statement.
In accordance with the commission authorized to TRAGSA, the work must be completed before November 15, 2026.
These actions are supported by the construction projects previously drafted within the framework of the Green Strategy applied to the road infrastructure of the Canary Islands.
