The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) highlights the role of the private sector in improving the data on the active population on the island collected by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics, which establishes that in the month of July there were 8,995 fewer unemployed people in the archipelago compared to 2023.

According to the latest reports, in July the labor market in Canary Islands has registered a reduction of 0.6% of unemployed people compared to the previous month and a decrease of 5.2% compared to the same period last year

In the specific case of Lanzarote, the decrease in July has been 0.2% and in the last twelve months it has fallen by 6.2%, which is equivalent to 510 people less in unemployment.

The president of the CEL, Beatriz Salazar, explains that "these data indicate a clear positive trend in the labor market of Lanzarote, underlining the continuous effort and commitment of the CEL in strengthening the local economy." "The Confederation continues to play a fundamental role, not only in advising and supporting companies, but also as an engine that drives economic development on the island," says Salazar.

The CEL is actively working to provide support and solutions to the sectors that accumulate the highest unemployment rate, such as commerce and hospitality, with 17% and 16% respectively, or construction, with 10%, to promote their recovery and growth.

In addition, Salazar highlights the imbalance between unemployment and the need for professionals in companies. "We must continue to bet on comprehensive plans that promote the training of people in the areas that companies need today and tomorrow. We must find the balance so that the needs of the labor market are covered by qualified professionals," she adds.

Regarding the distribution by gender, 57.77% of unemployed people are women and 42.23% are men. The Confederation continues to promote inclusive policies and offer specific advice to improve employment opportunities for all demographic groups.

The CEL reiterates its commitment to economic development and job creation in Lanzarote, to continue being a crucial ally for local companies, supporting their growth and contributing to the economic well-being of the island.
