The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the regulatory bases and calls for direct subsidies for farmers, ranchers and the fishing sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. These are direct or nominated aid totaling 2,500,000 euros (1,900,000 euros in the call for farmers and ranchers; and 600,000 euros in the fishing sector).
In addition, the island's Government group agreed to increase by 300,000 euros the one million already allocated by the Institution to subsidize the maintenance of the vineyard on the Island.
"It is a commitment we had with the primary sector and we fulfill it quickly because we know firsthand the difficulties faced by agricultural, livestock and fishing producers in the face of the difficult international economic situation and prices,” said the president, María Dolores Corujo. In addition, she stressed that the approval of the bases and calls has been carried out “in a month considered non-business by some; but we in the management of the Cabildo do not take vacations because the shortcomings of these citizens do not vanish in summer.”
Corujo also thanked the "negotiating capacity" these months of the representatives of the island's primary sector, with whom she has held several meetings to refine the lines of support they need. And she also highlighted the “diligent work” of the Cabildo staff in this matter, and especially that of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Area led by Councilor Andrés Stinga.
Aid by sectors
Regarding the calls for aid, Andrés Stinga explained that in the case of farmers and ranchers of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, to whom 1.9 million euros will be allocated, “the Cabildo seeks to guarantee activity in farms and fields of cultivation", stimulating with "economic support the reactivation of this important segment of the island's economy, given the loss of profitability that is causing the crisis in the supply of inputs and the increase in the cost of transport and fuel.”
In addition, the Area that Andrés Stinga directs has also designed in recent weeks some bases and a call that pursue "the maintenance of the productive fabric of the fishing sector in the face of the impact of inflation and the soaring costs of some materials and supplies." For this, it has committed a total of 600,000 euros.
The procedure for granting the planned subsidies will be processed under a direct concession regime, so once the application for the corresponding subsidy has been submitted, and the concurrence of the circumstances and requirements established in the bases has been accredited, the Cabildo will issue a resolution granting a direct subsidy in favor of the interested natural or legal person.
Once these bases are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, those interested will have twenty business days to request support.
In any case, the Cabildo clarifies that there will be "wide publicity about the opening of the application periods" and specifies that the Insular Government Council has "the capacity to extend said period if it observes that it is necessary."
