The BOE publishes the new fares from Lanzarote for public service inter-island flights

The Official State Gazette publishes this Friday the Order from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility by which the reference tariffs for public service obligations established in public service obligations on air routes between the Canary Islands are modified.

The order specifies that the reference tariff is established for each of the routes. With respect to the routes connecting with Lanzarote, the reference tariffs per route are set as follows: the Lanzarote-Gran Canaria route is set at 108 euros (up 8%, it was previously 100 euros), that of Lanzarote-Tenerife North at 132 euros (up 6.4%, it was previously 124 euros) and the Lanzarote-La Palma route reaches 136 euros (up 3.8%, it was previously 131 euros).

For its part, the rest of the inter-island connections will maintain the following reference tariffs per route: flights between Gran Canaria and Tenerife North, as well as between Gran Canaria and Tenerife South, are set at 90 euros; the Tenerife North-La Palma route is 92 euros and Tenerife North-El Hierro is 96 euros; the Gran Canaria-Fuerteventura link is set at 97 euros, while Gran Canaria-La Gomera sets its tariff at 112 euros and Gran Canaria-La Palma at 114 euros; finally, the Tenerife North-Fuerteventura route rises to 128 euros, Gran Canaria-El Hierro to 133 euros and Tenerife North-La Gomera is set at 84 euros.

The order recalls that the Council of Ministers' agreement of 2026, which declared public service obligations (PSOs) on air routes between the Canary Islands, was modified by another agreement of October 7, 2011, which established in its annex the conditions to ensure that air transport within the archipelago is provided under conditions of continuity, frequency, capacity, and quality of service that adequately cover existing demand.

The PSOs declared on air routes between the Canary Islands have been modified three times since then, one of them to adapt them to the connectivity needs during the covid 19 pandemic and its subsequent recovery scenario, and another to recover the operational conditions prior to the pandemic.

The Order points out that in the current context, the general economic situation and that of the air transport sector in particular, at a global level, have produced an increase in operating costs for airlines, and have compromised the economic sustainability of the routes, especially those that, like those subject to public service obligations, have additional constraints in their operation.

The Order indicates that to guarantee the viability of the PSO routes between the Canary Islands, and with them the conditions of continuity, frequency, capacity, and quality of service on these routes, it is necessary to update the reference tariffs for these routes.
