Postal workers have gathered again in Arrecife to protest, at the doors of the post office, against "the collapse and accumulation of workloads derived from the lack of staff", they point out. The mobilization has been promoted and supported by CCOO, the leading union of Correos both in the province of Las Palmas and throughout the State, for which "the figures speak for themselves of the difficult, if not impossible, situation that the postmen of Lanzarote and also of Fuerteventura have to face every day".
"The lack of personnel, the accumulation of workloads, the precariousness of working conditions and the deterioration of the service provided to citizens lead the workers of Correos to mobilize to demand more staff", explains the union.

According to the data provided by CCOO, "the island of Lanzarote currently has approximately 130 positions, of which around 40% are covered with temporary contracts with the same problems as Fuerteventura".
CCOO points out as another element to take into account is the "peculiar orography" of both islands, which forces rural postmen to travel long distances. Also half of these positions are covered with temporary contracts and with "the same disorganization and rotation when assigning delivery areas among workers with temporary contracts", denounces the union.
Willing to "increase the pressure" if the situation does not change
Regarding the staff of public service offices, "their situation is no better than that of the rest of the groups", they point out. Thus, CCOO explains that these workers "are not only replaced month after month, but, as if the situation were not serious enough, in most cases Correos replaces full days with part-time contracts of 5 hours".
For the union, all these aspects imply a "precariousness of working conditions" that, in addition, has an impact on a "deterioration of the service provided to citizens". In a press release, CCOO explains that they want "the public to know that Correos is not only failing to comply with its obligation as an operator assigned for the Universal Postal Service, but also diminishes its quality and aggravates the situation of the staff".

Faced with this situation, from CCOO, they support "unreservedly the rejection of the workers to this situation" and announce that they will continue "demanding from the company's management concrete measures in terms of hiring and work organization that put an end and solution to measures that are seriously harming the provision of service to citizens and the working conditions of workers". If the situation is not modified, the union has announced that it will continue "increasing the pressure and mobilization measures in the coming weeks".
