The logistics and transport operator JSV has launched this Thursday at the port of Alicante its first container ship in its possession, the MilaGreen, a state-of-the-art sustainable vessel that halves consumption on its trips from the peninsula to the Canary Islands for the transport of food and non-perishable provisions.
The ship was built in Shanghai with a budget of 38 million euros and is the first of three planned, followed by the 'twin' MirandaGreen at the end of 2026 and later the GreenCanarias, explained to several journalists the executive director of JSV, Sonia Herzog.
The MilaGreen, named after the wife of JSV founder Antonio Herzog (Milagros Sáenz de Samaniego), was christened at pier 11 of the port with a bottle of white Rioja wine from Bodegas Franco-Españolas of Logroño, and will make its first voyage from Alicante this Friday, August 7, to arrive on Monday at the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after two and a half days and loaded with 450 new containers, and subsequently to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and then to Lanzarote.
JSV, headquartered in Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), a strategic railway connection hub in northern Spain, supplies provisions from all over the peninsula, especially food and construction materials, as well as the steel industry.
Herzog explained that this new 'Next Generation' vessel operating in the company's hub at the Alicante port has "many particularities that make it different and innovative, especially the sustainability aspect" as it will allow the use of methanol as fuel when the infrastructure is available.
"It will mark a before and after in Spanish maritime logistics," continued the JSV executive, who emphasized "the commitment to more efficient, sustainable logistics with greater and better adaptation to customer needs" by promoting a new "green highway" between the peninsula and the Canary Islands.
The ship is also prepared to connect to the electrical grid during loading and unloading operations in port, anticipating European regulations that will require this system in the coming years. In addition, it has a hydrodynamically optimized hull, latest-generation propellers and rudders, and an intelligent navigation system that optimizes routes based on real-time weather conditions, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions.
In addition to the Alicante-Canary Islands route twice a week, JSV operates a direct weekly line from the same port with the Turkish port of Derince, in the Asian part of Istanbul, where textiles and steel products are fundamentally sent.
