The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Canary Islands Government, headed by Nieves Lady Barreto, trains more than 400 public employees in the use of AI in a new training initiative within its program to promote public leadership and innovation.

The webinar, organized by the Directorate General for Modernization and Quality of Public Services, titled ‘ChatGPT and other AIs: basic tips to improve the efficiency of public employees’, had high participation, reflecting the significant interest in the responsible and efficient use of artificial intelligence in public administrations.

The Director General of Modernization and Quality of Public Services, Juana María Reyes, assures that "artificial intelligence, including tools like ChatGPT, represents an unprecedented opportunity to advance the modernization of our Public Administration. "Its responsible and strategic incorporation not only improves the efficiency of internal processes, but also allows us to offer more agile, accessible services focused on the real needs of citizens," she said.

The session was led by Carlos Alberto González Delgado, an expert in strategy, data, and automation, and focused on offering a practical overview of using generative artificial intelligence tools—such as ChatGPT—to support the daily work of public personnel, always from a professional standpoint, with human supervision, and in respect of the current regulatory framework.

During the seminar, topics addressed included, among others, the challenges and opportunities of AI in public administrations, the difference between human judgment and the capabilities of generative AI, real-world use cases in administrative tasks, best practices in formulating instructions (prompts), as well as the risks, limitations, and fundamental principles for the ethical and safe use of these technologies.

This initiative is part of the Canary Islands Government's strategy to promote a more innovative, efficient, and citizen-oriented Administration, strengthening the digital skills of public employees and promoting responsible use of new technologies
