Lanzarote became the epicenter of fashion this weekend at its big annual event, the Lanzarote Fashion Weekend, where creators from Lanzarote, but also from Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma, presented their collections under the Canarias Islas de Moda label.
The artisans based in Lanzarote were Angie Vázquez, Nacho Nanni, Ángel Cabrera, Rosa Delgado, Macaronesia Swim, Oswaldo Machín, Noemi Scarte, Almagre, Famara Spirit, Nanny Jewelry, Migongo, Azuvilas and Siliza.
In addition, Elena Morales participated, whose studio is in Gran Canaria; Diazar, from Tenerife; and Ban Artesanía en Cuero, from La Palma.
Lanzarote's fashion event included the initiative "Fashion Talks", talks given by professionals in the sector to promote digital innovation, international competitiveness and sustainability. These presentations featured designer Roberto Diz and the president of WOW Concept, Dimas Gimeno, who spoke about sustainable fashion as a creative and responsible opportunity for the future.
The meeting, organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, was supported by the Government of the Canary Islands through Proexca, and is one of the five main fashion events in the Canary Islands. There is also the Tenerife Fashion Fair, the Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida and the recent Fuerteventura Fashion Week. La Palma Fashion Week will be inaugurated soon.
"This event represents the commitment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Proexca to a fashion that respects our traditions and the environment, and that promotes the economic development of our island," said the Councilor for Crafts of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Aroa Revelo.
Proexca's Foreign Promotion technician, Paula Hernández, pointed out that the creation of a brand such as Canarias Islas de Moda not only simplifies the external promotion and visibility of this industry in international markets, but also strengthens the industry and its commercialization.
"It improves our positioning as a region in terms of attracting investment and tourism; it encourages innovation and local talent, generates employment throughout its value chain and in other associated activities such as audiovisual services, technology and creative businesses, and promotes a model of sustainability and circular economy," he added.
