The Cabildo of Lanzarote has activated this Wednesday new lines of support aimed at the island's wine and fishing sectors, with the publication of their respective calls for applications in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas (BOP), number 117, of September 30, 2026.
On the one hand, the call for subsidies for the agro-systems of the La Geria wine-growing area, for the year 2026, has been published, with a budget of 720,602.05 euros. On the other hand, a line of subsidies, in a competitive bidding process, has been announced for the fishing sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, which has a budget of 400,000 euros. In total, both calls mobilize 1,120,602.05 euros.
Conserving and improving La Geria's agro-systems
The aid for La Geria aims to improve the profitability of the most unique agro-systems and contribute to the conservation of the island's wine-growing landscape, characterized by unique cultivation systems.
Individuals and legal entities engaged in the agricultural activity of vine cultivation on plots located in the La Geria Protected Natural Area may benefit. The deadline for submitting applications will be 15 working days, starting from Thursday, October 1st.
The call is co-financed by the Government of Canary Islands, which contributes 31%, and the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, which finances the remaining 69%. The aid includes a base amount of 200 euros per hectare for plots with active SIGPAC use VI, VF, FV, CV, or VO and producing vines. To this amount, 500 euros per hectare may be added for plots with cultivation in pits deeper than 0.5 meters and 300 euros per hectare for those with a slope greater than 20%. The maximum aid may therefore reach 1,000 euros per hectare.
The president of the Cabildo and Minister of Agriculture, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasizes that "supporting the profitability of La Geria's farms also means investing in the conservation of a unique agricultural landscape and in the future of our viticulture."
"Behind each pit and each plot are generations of farmers who have managed to adapt vine cultivation to a volcanic territory and to particularly complex conditions. This aid recognizes that effort and contributes to ensuring that this form of agriculture can remain viable," he adds.
A total of 400,000 euros to boost the island's fishing sector
The second call published this Wednesday corresponds to the competitive tendering subsidies aimed at the fishing sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, which have a budget of 400,000 euros.
The objective is to promote the development and maintenance of fishing activity through the financing of investment expenses and projects, supporting the sector's transition towards sustainable fishing within the framework of the Common Fisheries Policy. The call includes three lines of subsidies for the acquisition of vessels; health, safety, working conditions and hygiene on board; and energy efficiency and climate change mitigation.
“We want the fishermen of Lanzarote and La Graciosa,” points out the Minister of Fisheries, Samuel Martín, “to have resources to improve their working conditions, modernize their means, and maintain an artisanal fishing activity that is fundamental to our economy, our local product, and our identity.”
Beneficiaries of these subsidies may be natural persons over 18 years of age whose professional activity is in the fishing sector and who have their tax residence in Lanzarote or La Graciosa, as well as legal entities in the fishing sector with tax residence in the islands. In both cases, they must be legally constituted and have fishing activity as their object.
The application submission period will also be 15 working days starting Thursday, October 1st, and applications can be submitted electronically through the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
