The brotherhoods of Lanzarote receive 25% of the Canary fishing aid for current expenses

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the resolution for the granting of subsidies intended to cover the operating expenses of Fishermen's Guilds, their Federations and Cooperatives of the Sea, which has a total amount of 1,190,000 euros financed from the Autonomous Community's own funds. In this call, coverage has been provided for the 27 applicant entities from all the islands.

The resolution shows the percentages obtained by each guild. In the case of Lanzarote, the San Ginés guild receives 14.18%, followed by La Tiñosa, with 4.57%. The Playa Blanca Guild has received 3.56% and that of La Graciosa 3.13%. 

In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, highlighted that “these entities constitute an essential pillar for the organization and representation of the Canary Islands' fishing sector, therefore these aids represent support for their daily operations, as well as a guarantee for them to continue providing fundamental services to fishing professionals”.

For his part, the Director General of Fisheries, Esteban Reyes, pointed out that “the economic support for these entities allows for strengthening their management capacity, improving the attention they provide to their members and contributing to the maintenance of a strategic activity for many coastal areas of the Archipelago”.

Specifically, this subsidy finances expenses derived from the ordinary operation of the entities, such as electricity, water, telephone, and office supplies; mandatory insurance and the adoption of measures included in the Plan for the prevention of occupational risks and workplace safety and hygiene; and other mandatory expenses, such as the payment of dues to federations and associations of the sector, travel for attendance at official meetings, hiring of personnel and Social Security costs and professional advisory services in legal, labor, tax, accounting, and IT matters, including the creation and maintenance of websites.

The granting procedure has been processed under a competitive bidding regime in accordance with the criteria established in the regulatory bases, which assess the number of associated persons, the activity carried out at first sale points, and aspects related to generational change and gender equality.
