The Canarian supermarket chain HiperDino has avoided discarding 1,560 tons of food since it began the fight against food waste in June 2020.
This commitment, managed through the Alimentos conVida project led by the DinoSol Foundation, has allowed it to donate products to 35 centers in the Canary Islands and help 13,343 people every day.
The economic value of the tons donated amounts to 3.6 million euros, and 103 stores of the HiperDino and SuperDino brands participate in the program, in addition to the logistics centers of Telde, in Gran Canaria, and Güímar, in Tenerife.
Among the products that are most often delivered to the centers are fruit and vegetables, followed by room products, bread, cold cuts and sausages. Other fresh products such as meat and fish are also donated.
The quality and freshness of the donated products also allow donations to be made with nutritional impact criteria regarding the diet of the beneficiaries.
Currently, seven people work in the Alimentos conVida program, six of them being delivery drivers and one more being an auditor of the project.
