The trade unions Comisiones Obreras, UGT and Intersindical Canaria have agreed with the workers in the discretionary passenger transport sector to go on strike every Wednesday and Saturday for a month, between May 17 and June 17 in the province of Las Palmas.
They denounce that "the Federation of Transport Employers (FET) refuses to negotiate the collective agreement", whose salary tables have not been revised since 2011, and explain that they have urged the Canarian labor court "to mediate in the labor dispute."
The strike could extend to the transport of goods, whose "working conditions have been blocked for more than 15 years." According to reports, the salary tables for freight transport workers have not been renewed since 2007.
According to the unions, the last meeting with employers was held on April 27, 2016 and, since then, "the employers have not responded to any of the repeated proposals from the unions to sit down and resume talks."
