After Lanzarote recorded the lowest cement sales in the last four years in January, February saw a slight increase of 2.3%, to 3,796 tons, according to the Lanzarote Data Center, based on figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics.

Cement sales, an important indicator of the dynamism of the construction sector on the island, show a small rebound in Lanzarote after experiencing sharp falls since the first year of the pandemic when records soared. The monthly growth rate was 72% in May 2020. During the pandemic period, the absence of tourists led to greater construction and renovation activity.

Since the peak in March 2021, when 8,590 tons were recorded, a decreasing trend began that could have ended with the 3,712 tons reached in January, a figure already exceeded in the second month of this year.

On the other hand, for the Canary Islands as a whole, the downward trend continues. Last month, a sales level of 14.8% below what was recorded in January was recorded. In February, 40,198 tons of cement were purchased in the Canary Islands.
