The Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Housing of the Canary Islands will receive 47.5 million euros to subsidize land transport on the islands, according to reported the Government of the Canary Islands today after the Council of Ministers.

The main objective is to finance and guarantee the operability of regular public passenger transport by road, so that the 7 island councils receive, proportionally, the money and manage the distribution among the different operators.

Among the beneficiary companies are those related to interurban and urban collective transport, including buses and trams, which will be able to use this money for operating expenses, as well as to guarantee the established bonuses for students, retirees and other benefited groups.

It should be noted that the islands already received this annual installment of state funds valued at 47.5 million euros in May of last year, thanks to their strategy of the Sustainable Mobility Plans (PMUS), which aims to highlight a more sustainable mobility.
