The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has paid 735 million euros to autonomous communities, local entities, and transport consortia to finance urban, interurban, and metropolitan public transport during the year 2025.
Specifically, it mobilized 355 million euros to finance the implementation of **free public transport for children** under 14 years of age, as well as 50% discounts on season tickets and youth passes, and a reduction in fares, co-financed with users, of at least 40% on other season tickets and multi-trip passesIn December, as an advance payment, the first 201 million euros were paid out, distributed among 75 beneficiaries (11 autonomous communities and 64 municipalities, provincial councils, and supramunicipal local entities) out of a total of 135.
In attention to the peculiarities of insularity, the Ministry also dedicates a special line of aid for the financing of a 100% discount on the price of transport passes and multi-trip tickets for public land collective transport on the islands.
Thanks to these grants, the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands benefited last year from a subsidy of 120 million euros, while the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, in turn, received 63 million euros.
Both autonomous communities also received advances on account in 2025 for a total of 118.95 million euros: 78 million destined for the Canary Islands and 40.95 for the Balearic Islands.
Similarly, Transport contributed **363.7 million** euros for the financing of regular public passenger transport in the **metropolitan area** to the Regional Transport Consortium of **Madrid** (126.9 million), to the Metropolitan Transport Authority of **Barcelona** (149.3 million), to the Metropolitan Transport Authority of **Valencia** (40 million), and to the Autonomous Community of the **Canary Islands** (47.5 million)
With the aim of financing urban public transport services provided by local entities, the Ministry launched a new subsidy call in 2025 for an amount exceeding 51 million euros.
Thanks to this line of aid, 93 city councils received funding from this program, among which Zaragoza (more than 7 million euros), Seville (4.8 million euros), Malaga (2.9 million euros) and Valladolid (1.7 million euros) stand out.
