The central and Canary governments will meet on July 2 to address airport co-management, an issue on which the Autonomous Community insists it does not want "a seat" on AENA but rather to take an active part in decisions affecting the island airports.

The spokesperson for the Canary Government, Alfonso Cabello, indicated this Monday at a press conference that the Ministry of Territorial Policy has sent the regional Executive a draft with the documentation regarding the meeting, which will likely be held in Madrid.

In this regard, Cabello added that the Ministry knows "perfectly" that the Canary Islands are seeking an agreement similar to the one reached with the Basque Country in this area, with a "reinforced" coordination group, as the archipelago also requests to actively participate in the decision-making regarding fees and plans affecting the island airports.

This is a "priority" issue for us, argued the spokesperson for the Canary Government, who specified that the Ministry recognizes that, in this matter, it must go "further" and adapt to the provisions of the Statute of Autonomy.

He added that the July meeting will likely include, on the state side, the Secretary of State for Public Administrations, the State Attorney's Office, and the Directorate General of Public Administrations, while from the Canary side, the Secretary General Technical of the Presidency, the minister of the area, Nieves Lady Barreto, and Alfonso Cabello himself will attend.

The spokesperson also indicated that another request from the Canary Government for a meeting related to the Economic and Fiscal Regime is pending a response from the Ministry of Finance
