The French city of Toulouse is these days the nerve center of astrophysical and aerospace scientific technology and innovation, thanks to the celebration of the NEREUS- Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies- European Symposium in which the adhesion of the Government of the Canary Islands to this network has materialized, in collaboration with the Astrophysics Institute of the Canary Islands.

The Government of the Canary Islands has been attended by the general director of Organic Coordination and Strategic Projects, David Pérez-Dionis, the technician of Investing in the Canary Islands of Proexca, Jerónimo Falcón, and the manager of the Technological Park of Fuerteventura, Eduardo Pereira.

During the meeting, the Canary Islands Geo Innovation Program 2023, which is developed in the Technological Park of Fuerteventura, was presented and an agreement was reached with the Azores, organizers of the next Symposium in 2025.

This meeting is an opportunity to promote the Canary Islands as a pole of attraction for companies in the aeronautical - aerospace sector, a strategic sector in the economic diversification of the islands, one of the objectives of the regional executive, this general directorate and Proexca.

The qualities and advantages of the Canary Islands as a hub for this industry place the archipelago in a privileged situation. The Canary Islands has the largest Spanish airspace, its climatology, its geographical location, the aeronautical infrastructures already available and its tax advantages, consolidate the region in the advantageous position for carrying out aerospace research missions. From public institutions and private companies, as well as study and research centers, work has been carried out in recent years in a coordinated manner to consolidate a solid ecosystem attractive for attracting investment from these companies and the projects that are being developed in the islands are the result of this.

For the Canary Islands, being part of this network also allows to strengthen ties and be up to date with the news of the sector in terms of legislation, technology or developments. In this symposium, under the theme "Space data for water and energy", presentations, dialogues, presentations on best practices in water and energy management, two key concepts for the fight against climate change and promote sustainability, have been shared.
