Canary Islands allocates 200,000 euros to train 28 students in local commerce

Last Thursday, May 12, the VI edition of the University Course in Urban Commerce Management was inaugurated, which will have a subsidy of 200,000 euros from the Government of the Canary Islands and will be taught in collaboration with the university foundations of Las Palmas and La Laguna.

The course will have a total duration of 500 hours of classes and will include paid internships in collaborating companies for the 28 enrolled students. In addition, it will have face-to-face training from May to July 2022, a parallel e-learning, internships from September to November in collaborating companies and the delivery of the final degree project that will take place in December.

The General Director of Commerce and Consumption, David Mille, highlighted "the importance of attracting talent to the commerce sector to promote urban commerce and the local economy, through professional development actions that are in tune with the strategies of the Government of the Canary Islands in this sector, together with universities, vocational training centers, companies and citizens and customers themselves."

For his part, the president of the University Foundation of Las Palmas, Alberto Cabré, emphasized the importance of the commerce sector, both in its weight in the Gross Domestic Product, and in the generation of employment. "A weight that falls on the effort of thousands of SMEs and micro-enterprises", and valued the commitment to "professionalize management through specific training, which the commercial ecosystem demands and needs to face the challenges of an activity in constant transformation".

David Mille was accompanied by the president of the University Foundation of Las Palmas, Alberto Cabré, the vice-rector of Degrees, Postgraduate and New Degrees of the ULPGC, Luis Hernández and the vice-rector of Culture, Social Participation and Campus of Ofra and La Palma, Juan Albino Méndez.
