The Government of the Canary Islands has renewed its support for the audiovisual sector of the islands with a new call for grants for 2026 endowed with more than three million euros, aimed at the production and development of film and television projects.

The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, has signed the orders approving the regulatory bases for these grants, aimed at the production, minority co-production, and development of feature films and fiction, animation, or documentary series, production of short films and scriptwriting, as well as the organization of small and medium-format events.

As reported by the regional Executive this Friday in a statement, the bases will be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), although they can already be consulted on the institutional website of the Culture area.

The planned investment is distributed as follows: 1.28 million euros for production, one million for minority co-production, and 520,000 euros for the development of feature films, series, and the production of short films.

To these amounts, 125,000 euros are added for scriptwriting, 150,000 euros for small and medium-format audiovisual events, and 262,625 euros for cinemas.

Machín has pointed out that these grants are part of the Canary Islands Government's strategy to strengthen audiovisual creation in the islands and promote the development of projects linked to local creative talent.

The grants will be managed through the General Directorate of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries, with the collaboration of the Canary Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC).

Applications must be submitted electronically through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The general deadline will be twenty business days from the day following the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, except in the case of small and medium-format audiovisual events, for which the deadline will be fifteen business days.

The bases establish a maximum execution period of four years for feature film and series production and minority co-production projects, until November 1, 2029. For development and short film production projects, the deadline will be three years, until 2028.

Production companies and cinemas registered in the Canary Islands Audiovisual Companies Registry may apply for these grants.

In the case of production grants, a minimum age of one year is required, while for development and short film lines, it will not be necessary to prove age.

Projects must have the participation of Canarian professionals in positions considered key within the production, while other relevant positions (which change depending on whether the project is fiction, animation, or documentary) receive additional points, but are not a requirement.

The evaluation of applications will be carried out by external committees made up of professionals of recognized prestige and representing the different film genres that are being convened.
