Almost 200 self-employed workers from Lanzarote apply for a bonus on their contributions

The number of self-employed workers in the Canary Islands archipelago is growing at a rate that doubles the national rate

Among the 2,412 self-employed workers in the Canary Islands who have applied for the bonus on their Social Security contributions, known as the zero quota, there are 197 in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, according to data from the responsible Ministry in the Government of the Canary Islands.

In the rest of the islands, Tenerife stands out with 1,110 applications, followed by Gran Canaria with 814, Fuerteventura, 188, La Palma, 56, El Hierro, 24 and La Gomera 23.

Since last May, self-employed workers who started their activity for the first time in 2023 and have paid the state flat rate can apply for this aid, as well as those who, being in their second year of activity, do not exceed the minimum interprofessional salary.

 

The number of self-employed workers in the Canary Islands grows twice as much as the national average

On the other hand, the number of people affiliated to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) in the Canary Islands stood at 142,054 in May, the highest figure in the entire historical series, with an annual increase of 2%. Since July 2023, the number of self-employed workers has grown more than the national average (0.98%).

In addition, the number of Canary women affiliated to the RETA has increased more than men during the same period; 2.93% compared to 1.45% and also above the national average, which stands at 1.81%. By provinces, Las Palmas grows in the number of self-employed workers (2.44%) surpassing Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1.57%).
