The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, on which the Port of Arrecife depends, has approved the file to carry out access improvements in the Cruise Ship Dock of the port of the capital of Lanzarote, with a budget of 747,386.98 euros and an execution period of eight months.

The works of the project contemplate two actions: on the one hand, a new access control, modifying the access road with the construction of a roundabout connected to the current esplanade with another roundabout. The road will consist of two lanes of 4 meters each and double direction. In addition, a new control is planned with the installation of a prefabricated module.

On the other hand, the existing esplanade is reorganized, dividing the area into parking for 19 buses, for taxis, for rental vehicles and for users who will operate in the future cruise terminal. Likewise, the pedestrian access to the area is conditioned, adapting it to people with reduced mobility and eliminating architectural barriers.

In another order of things, the counselors have agreed to continue granting public domain concessions to businesses located in the Sports Dock that have requested them in order to continue with their businesses. A measure that was approved in the Council of last April in order to offer legal certainty and guarantees to entrepreneurs during the next three years. With these latest concessions, more than half of the businesses located in the Dársena de Embarcaciones Menores would have requested it.

Likewise, the incorporation of the Port Authority of Las Palmas as a new member of the MedCruise Association, which promotes cooperation, strategic partnerships and the exchange of knowledge in the cruise industry, promoting the growth and development of the same and offering the possibility of connecting with experts in the sector, cruise companies, tourist entities and service providers, has been unanimously approved.

The cruise sector is booming in the Port Authority, which closed 2023 with 1.5 million cruise passengers. In addition, the Port of Las Palmas will house the largest cruise terminal in Europe, hand in hand with GlobalPorts, whose works will be completed at the end of 2025.

Similarly, Puertos de Las Palmas has joined the Association Alianza Net-Zero Mar, a non-profit association whose purpose is to accelerate the decarbonization and electrification of the maritime sector and Spanish ports.
