The turnover of the services sector in the Canary Islands increased by 32.4% in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
The services sector of the archipelago, strongly driven by tourist demand, is the second fastest growing in Spain in 2022, second only to the Balearic Islands, which recorded a growth in sales volume of 42.5%.
In terms of employment, companies dedicated to services in the Canary Islands are also the second in the country that have increased their staff the most with a growth of 5.9%. The first place corresponded to companies based in the Balearic Islands with 12.9%.
At the national level, the growth in turnover of companies in this sector was 20.3%, while employment growth was 3.9%. The number of employed grew with special intensity in the hotel industry (10.3%) with an average of 21.9% in accommodation and 7.3% in food and beverage services. In travel agencies and tour operators 9.3%, as in air transport.
