Josep Borrell will participate in a special edition of the South Global Forum on July 17 in Lanzarote.

Under the title “Europe at the Crossroads”, Josep Borrell will analyze the current international geopolitical scenario, marked by tensions in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, the new balance between major powers, and the challenges facing Europe in terms of security, defense, economic competitiveness, energy, and international relations.

Josep Borrell is one of the European political figures with the greatest international projection. Throughout his career, he has been President of the European Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, and, between 2019 and 2024, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, playing a key role in defining the EU's foreign policy during one of the most complex periods in recent European history.

Borrell's presence comes at a particularly relevant time for the debate on the future of Europe and the role the European Union should play in an increasingly multipolar world. The South Global Forum aims to offer a space for high-level reflection and analysis on the main political, economic, and strategic challenges that will shape the coming decades.

This new edition consolidates the prestige achieved by the South Global Forum, which in its recent editions has featured the participation of two former Prime Ministers of Spain, Felipe González and Mariano Rajoy, positioning itself as one of the most relevant spaces for thought and dialogue in the archipelago and a benchmark meeting point for public officials, businessmen, academics, and representatives of civil society.

The South Global Forum is co-organized by Lanzarote Media and is sponsored by the Centers for Art, Culture, and Tourism of Lanzarote, SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, and the Government of the Canary Islands.
