The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, has put the number of people currently in quarantine in the Canary Islands at one hundred due to the outbreak registered at a family party in Fuerteventura, as they are close contacts of the ten positives that were detected.
In this regard, Trujillo has asked "not to lower our guard" in the face of a situation that "although it is controlled, is not extinguished", hence he stressed that "it is essential" to maintain security and distancing measures to avoid outbreaks. In the case of the family party, he pointed out that about 40 people attended and "no Covid-19 prevention measures were taken."
Now, the tracking teams continue to study possible contacts in both Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, from where some people who were at that party traveled to attend the family reunion.
Positives "well controlled"
Likewise, Trujillo highlighted the capacity demonstrated by the Fuerteventura Health Area to attend to all possible cases, since it is the island "most affected by positives imported by immigrants who are well controlled and conveniently isolated."
In this regard, he pointed out that technically, the term outbreak "should not be applied" to contagion among immigrants arriving in a boat, since he explained that the traceability of contacts "is guaranteed at the moment they all arrive together, PCR is performed immediately and they are isolated."
Regarding the staff, he pointed out that the Management of Health Services of Fuerteventura has been reinforced since February with 183 professionals including doctors, nurses, assistants, orderlies, X-ray technicians, among others, in order to respond to a possible increase in demand.
Trujillo also took the opportunity to thank the work of the trackers and Primary Care professionals who are still monitoring the active cases that are being treated at home for Covid-19.
