The management of Pevolca (Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan) has ordered this Monday the home confinement of almost 3,000 people in several areas of the Palmerian municipalities of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane after the release of gases generated by the burning of a cement plant located in the Callejón de la Gata industrial estate.

This was announced at a press conference by the spokesman of the steering committee, Miguel Ángel Morcuende, who pointed out that the affected area covers approximately an area between the Tajuya crossing and the El Paso football field.

In addition, he indicated that the weather forecast on the island "is bad" for the next three days, as the trade wind is blowing weakly and the sea breeze is pushing the ashes to the east, which may again affect the airport's operability.
