This week, the Canary Islands registered 62 new outbreaks with 374 cases, of which 34 occurred in Tenerife, 27 in Gran Canaria, and one in Lanzarote.
Regarding the setting in which they occurred, 26 are family outbreaks, 17 social, 13 work-related, three educational, one sports-related, one involving socially vulnerable groups, and one in a penitentiary center.
In general, all outbreaks have fewer than 10 associated cases, except for five outbreaks in Tenerife, including a family outbreak with work-related ramifications involving 21 cases, another social outbreak with 20 people affected, one in a penitentiary center with 17, one family outbreak with 14 people, and one work-related outbreak with 12 cases.
As for the one in Lanzarote, it would have fewer than 10 associated cases, and the Ministry has not specified in which setting it occurred. This new outbreak adds to the one that originated in a gym in Arrecife, which was reported last week but has continued to add cases, reaching 59 this Wednesday.
One of the work-related outbreaks is the one reported on a cargo ship docked in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which already affects six people, one of whom is hospitalized and another has died. The latest confirmed positives correspond to the crew members who are isolating in lodging establishments in the capital of Gran Canaria.
The three educational outbreaks, all with family ramifications, have been reported two in Gran Canaria with nine and four cases, and another in Tenerife with five people infected.
In addition, 30 old outbreaks that remain open are still being monitored, including the one in Lanzarote. These include an educational outbreak with family ramifications in Gran Canaria with 52 cases, a social outbreak in La Palma with 27 people affected, a social outbreak in Tenerife with 28 cases, and another educational outbreak with family ramifications, also in Tenerife, which already affects 25 people.
