The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands has authorized the Salesianos School of La Orotava to suspend classes for one week following the positive coronavirus test of one of its teachers.
The decision, the center reports in a statement, is due to the high rate of school absenteeism that has been generated this Monday, close to 50 percent, and to reassure families, while some teachers have self-imposed isolation for security reasons.
The school also emphasizes that they are in contact at all times with the Health and Education departments of the Government of the Canary Islands to monitor the evolution of the case.
The professor, who also coaches a team at the San Isidro Basketball Club, began to feel unwell last week after returning from a trip and requested leave when the first symptoms appeared.
