The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has announced that this week it will resume the reorganization and appointment for the Covid-19 vaccine of groups 3 (health and social health personnel not included in group 2) and 6 (essential personnel including teachers and local police), "once progress has been made in the vaccination of vulnerable groups, already exceeding 70 percent of those over 60 years of age vaccinated" with at least one dose.
The vaccination of these groups was interrupted after the paralysis of the inoculation of the AstraZeneca vaccine to people under 60 years of age. In total, this group is made up of some 66,000 people and before the paralysis of the AstraZeneca vaccine, 18,821 had been vaccinated. In their case, they will have to continue to await the technical decision by the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (SNS) on their second doses, while the rest will begin to apply other available vaccines.
In this regard, the Ministry has reported that between this Monday and Tuesday, the Canary Islands has received 66,700 doses of Pfizer and this Friday the arrival of 14,100 of Moderna is planned. Regarding AstraZeneca and Janssen, it states that it is "pending confirmation of the number of doses and the date on which the next shipments will arrive" to the archipelago.
