The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands will begin to vaccinate against Covid-19 those people between 12 years old (already completed) and 64 years old who have passed the SARS-CoV-2 infection, preferably, eight weeks before.
The Canary Islands joins other autonomous communities such as Aragon, the Basque Country and Catalonia, which have already reduced the time initially established to be able to receive the vaccine after having passed the disease from six to two months.
According to the Ministry, this measure seeks to guarantee the complete immunization of those people who have passed the disease and is activated at this time "in the face of the majority presence of the Delta variant". Likewise, it is stated that the supply of doses necessary for the vaccination of this group is guaranteed.
In the Canary Islands, it is estimated that there are around 34,000 people who could be vaccinated at this time, after the change in the parameters to receive the vaccine after having passed the infection, something that the Ministry considers will be "very beneficial" to achieve group immunization objectives. In this regard, the Ministry of Health points out that, despite having passed the disease, "it is important to complete the vaccination schedule to achieve adequate immunization".
Vaccination with and without prior appointment
Residents in the Canary Islands who meet these requirements can make an appointment to receive their dose of the vaccine by calling 012 (or 928 301 012 or 922 470 012), on the website www.canariassevacuna.com and in the MiCitaPrevia app of the Canarian Health Service.
In addition, the SCS will carry out a proactive telephone appointment campaign through calls made from health centers and by sending SMS to those people likely to receive the vaccine.
Finally, and as an alternative to the prior appointment, these patients may go to the mass vaccination points during the hours authorized for vaccination without an appointment to receive their corresponding dose.
