A 4.3 earthquake is felt in all the municipalities of La Palma during the night

The volcanic monitoring network of 24-hour monitoring of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located during this Tuesday a total of 76 earthquakes associated with the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, about twenty of them with magnitudes greater than 3 (mbLG)

Specifically, the maximum magnitude recorded was 4.8 (mbLg), the highest to date, corresponding to the earthquake located southwest of the municipality of Villa de Mazo at 22.58 hours. With intensity IV EMS and a depth of 39 km, this tremor was felt in numerous nuclei throughout La Palma and even in some points of Tenerife such as Icod de Los Vinos or El Ortigal, in La Laguna.

During the night 14 earthquakes have been located, the largest of 3.4 mbLg, located northeast of the municipality of Fuencaliente at 02.54 hours.

One month after the start of the volcanic eruption, the magma emission process continues, following a pattern similar to that of previous days. The Pevolca Directorate is especially following the evolution of the northernmost lava flows. The one closest to the sea, which runs south of Montaña de La Laguna, is less than one hundred meters from the coast. When it reaches this area, the confinement of the nuclei of San Borondón, La Condesa, Marina Alta, Marina Baja and the nucleus of Tazacorte will proceed, in anticipation of the emission of gases produced by the contact of the lava with the sea.

Regarding air quality, the thermal inversion layer will remain at low levels until the 22nd, which prevents the dispersion of gases and suspended particles and especially affects El Paso. The recommendation of self-confinement of neighbors and the use of FFP2 or higher masks is maintained in case of having to go outside.

The area affected by the eruptive process reaches 779.89 ha and the maximum width between the extreme points of the lava flows remains at about 2,900 meters, although with undamaged areas.
