The Jupol National Police union has asked the Secretary of State for Immigration and the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands to install CATE-type facilities (Temporary Foreigner Care Center) in the ports that are receiving a flow of immigrants arriving irregularly on the islands.
In this regard, Jupol denounces that the circumstances in the immigrant reception ports in the Canary Islands "are far from being dignified conditions, with migrants and police officers having to spend many hours in the sun or in tents without air conditioning and sleeping on the floor."
The union organization has described as "incomprehensible" the lack of foresight of the Government of Spain and the General Directorate of the Police in a matter that is repeated year after year on the Spanish coasts. "An improvisation," he concluded, "that affects the working conditions of the police in terms of operational security by not being able to carry out a custody of migrants in optimal conditions."
In a statement, the union has indicated that this request is in addition to the request for the preparation and implementation of an effective action protocol for the National Police in the operations of reception and custody of these people in safe conditions.
