The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma is leaving more than shocking images of how the lava engulfs the houses in the area as it passes, some in a few minutes. The magma, which has already destroyed more than 160 homes, is heading towards the sea, also destroying crops and farms.
Although there is always room for hope. Despite the suffering and uncertainty of dozens of families on the island, photographer Alfonso Escalero has managed to immortalize an image that is going viral on social networks. That of a house that is saved in extremis from being devoured by lava in the Paraíso area.
