The family of Mariano García Ramírez, one of the first players of UD Lanzarote, who passed away this Sunday, June 28, thanks for the numerous expressions of "affection, love, respect, and support received on the occasion of his passing".
In this regard, they inform that the funeral in memory of Mariano García Ramírez will take place on Saturday, July 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the church of San Ginés.
Affectionately known as 'Mariano la Rana', he was one of the players who were part of the first squad of UD Lanzarote in the 1970-1971 season. This first squad was led by Antonio Collar Monterrubio and the assistant Román Cabrera Viera.
He also played for CD El Lomo and CD Orientación Marítima, where he served as a director.
Furthermore, he was also part of the island's culture through the murga Los Relamidos, one of the most important in Lanzarote in the seventies and eighties.
Despite his retirement, García remained linked to sports. Thus, he was the secretary of the Association of Ex-footballers of UD Lanzarote, which paid tribute to the former athletes of the Lanzarote team.
