The serious lack of personnel to perform autopsies on our island generates painful and inhuman delays in the delivery of the bodies of our loved ones to their families. Moments that are already difficult to face are further aggravated by an ineffective management that perpetuates the suffering of those of us who only seek to say goodbye with dignity.
This is not a recent or unknown problem. Lanzarote has been facing an evident inequality in comparison with other islands for years. While the rest of the archipelago has the necessary resources to guarantee this basic service, here we are still waiting for stable and lasting solutions, enduring the consequences of an institutional abandonment that seems to ignore us, as evidenced by the fact that this long wait of three days was due to the fact that a forensic assistant had to be moved from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Lanzarote.
It is time for the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and all political leaders to put an end to this situation. It is not just about numbers or statistics, but about the lives and rights of the people who live here.
Therefore, so that the same thing does not happen to anyone else in the future, I demand as an affected citizen the following:
- Immediate reinforcement of forensic personnel in Lanzarote to ensure that autopsies are performed without delays.
- A real and transparent commitment from the authorities, with clear deadlines and lasting solutions.
- Equality in public services, because the rights of the citizens of Lanzarote are no less important than those of the rest of the archipelago.
This is a call to action for those who have the power to change this reality. We can no longer accept excuses. The families of Lanzarote deserve respect, dignity and justice.
Sincerely, Mercedes Galán Robles, sister of Javier Aitor Galán Robles.
