A reader has contacted La Voz de Lanzarote to report the circulation of cyclists through the Femés pass. "They are prohibited by the signage from accessing this road, specifically they are installed at both entrances with the distinctive sign composed of a red circle with a white background and a bicycle in its center," he points out.
"This road stands out for its danger, the lack of visibility in most of its points and the narrowness in certain areas, especially when ascending and descending, in which cyclists hinder and slow down the safe passage through the most dangerous areas of the route. It is not uncommon to see some clueless cyclist (or not) at any time, who travels through the area. Existing of all types there have been and will be, whether they are cyclists who practice the sport casually or professionals equipped with complete equipment. They can be seen individually or in groups and even without a helmet or wearing headphones," criticizes the reader.

"There is no one more blind than the one who does not want to see, therefore we will be waiting for some misfortune to happen, which will lead to greater visibility of the problem for the institutions that can act in view of the enormous danger posed by incivility in the area," the complainant points out.
With the complaint, the reader indicates that he intends to publicize the situation and "point out" the parties involved. "To the government group of the municipality of Yaiza, for the lack of action on a problem that has been happening for quite some time and the inaction in order to propose and offer measures that help improve the road or the installation of larger signage or other measures that are within their reach. To the security forces for their impassivity, with traffic every day in the area where more of their presence is required to detect these behaviors and act forcefully against offenders. To the cyclists who circulate on the road, putting not only the lives of others at risk, but also their own, causing an unnecessary risk to all the people who use this road every day, already having other roads in the municipality intended for the use of sports practice," he concludes.
