Users of the Red House jetty at the La Tiñosa dock have contacted La Voz to report "the serious problem we have with pigeon droppings on the jetty and on our boats".
According to them, they have sent a written statement detailing all these problems to the Tías town hall, Puertos Canarios, and the health department of the Lanzarote island council, "to see if they can provide a solution to the problem".
In the letter sent, they consider that the fault for this situation lies with a feeding station for feline colonies, which was installed some time ago, "since before the presence of that feeder we had never had this problem".
Furthermore, they also consider that "many people come to the dock to throw bread on the walkway, despite it being prohibited by municipal regulations, which further aggravates the problem".
"At first, it was only a few individuals that came to eat, but over time it has become a serious problem, due to the large number of pigeons that have established themselves in this area of the port," they add.
Finally, they attach photographs showing all the droppings left by the pigeons both on the boats and in the port, as well as dead pigeons that have appeared on the boats, or some individuals that have nested on them.
