Complaint about bills of up to more than 1,000 euros from Canal Gestión: "The pipes are full of air"

A resident of Mácher has contacted La Voz to report that he has received high bills from Canal Gestión, that one of the cases amounts to more than 1,000 euros and that, according to him, they do not correspond to what was consumed. "Even if I'm thirsty some days, I couldn't consume that amount," says this citizen, who claims that the problem is that "the pipes are full of air" and complains that "no one at Canal listens."

According to this man, in July 2017 he already received an invoice for 1,151.69 euros from the house he has in Camino de Los Olivos in Mácher, where he lived alone at the time. The receipt, to which La Voz has had access, indicated that the consumption had been 339 cubic meters. "1,150 euros is equivalent to 28 trucks of water for twelve square meters in a month," explains this neighbor, who complained to Canal Gestión about this.

"I showed them that all my pipes were above the ground and that my cistern was lined with rubber, so it couldn't leak," says this man, who claims that despite proving that he had no leaks, Canal Gestión told him that everything "was correct."

So, he decided to send a video in which, according to him, he demonstrated that "air was passing through the meter" and that it showed "an increase of 0.5 cubic meters in 10 seconds." Then, according to him, Canal Gestión finally reduced the bill "to 15 euros", compared to the more than 1,000 it had intended to charge him.

A second invoice of 258 euros that they force him to pay

However, this neighbor claims that two months later he again had problems with another Canal Gestión bill, in this case corresponding to a villa located on the same street, where his wife, from whom he is separated, lives. Then, the receipt amounted to 258 euros.

"The receipt was in my company's name, so I was paying 2.80 euros per cubic meter and never received any invoices. The money was automatically taken from the company's bank account, so I never noticed the high bills, but when I did, I immediately switched to a domestic account and complained. And as usual, they told me everything was correct," laments this man, who has shown La Voz the water consumption history in both homes, where bills go from less than ten euros to months where they skyrocket to hundreds of euros or even more than a thousand.

On this occasion, this man complained again and again sent a video "showing the contact spinning and that only air was entering through the pipes", so that "he was paying 3.69 euros per cubic meter for the air." But despite this, he claims that Canal Gestión has now told him that "everything is correct" and that he must "pay the 258 euro bill."

"I'm not a scientist, but I'm smart enough to know when there's a leak. Water escapes and air enters the pipes and rises to the highest points," complains this citizen, who recalls that "the company admits that 50% of the water it produces is lost." "So the people of Lanzarote are paying for a huge amount of air," criticizes this citizen, who demands his right to be charged "correctly" for the water. "I am a pensioner and this is unfair," he concludes.
