A reader has contacted La Voz to report the lack of personnel in the National Police of Arrecife after he was beaten up on Monday afternoon in an alley in the capital.

After the assault, the victim had to be taken by ambulance to the José Molina Orosa Hospital to be treated due to "the pain he felt." The injured man had a broken collarbone and discomfort in his left shoulder.

Upon leaving the hospital, he went to the capital's Police Station to file a complaint but, according to the victim, "after waiting five hours, the agents invited him to leave claiming lack of personnel," he says.

As La Voz has confirmed, the lack of personnel in the different National Police stations in the Canary Islands is a reality, which is further accentuated in the non-capital islands.

When he arrived at the Police Station around 8:00 p.m., the reader says that there was only an older woman before him. "She told me that she had been there since five in the afternoon and had not been attended to, and the woman ended up leaving around eleven because her legs were swelling," he says.

"I was waiting for hours and couldn't stand the pain because I had a broken collarbone, I wasn't just hanging out there for fun," he declares. In addition, the complainant assures that one of the police officers told him that "the process to file the complaint was going to take a long time because the agent who collects the complaints was overwhelmed and there was a lack of personnel on the island and that I should put up with it."

The victim left the facilities at one in the morning without managing to file the complaint, which he managed to file on Tuesday afternoon.
