The majority are free and are spread across the north and south of the island, some at over 400 meters in height

One of the most different ways to enjoy Lanzarote is from above, through its spectacular viewpoints scattered throughout the island's geography.

From the viewpoints, most of them free and some with a fee, you can not only observe the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean that bathes the archipelago, but you can also see wonderful sunsets and even the stars that make up the Milky Way.

Many of the island's most important viewpoints are located in the north of Lanzarote, specifically in the municipality of Haría, guarded by the Risco de Famara. A massif with an average height of 400 meters, but which reaches up to 671 meters at its highest peak.

1. Mirador del Río

The viewpoint par excellence is the Mirador del Río, which owes its name to the body of water that separates the island of La Graciosa from Lanzarote.

This is one of the most touristy spots on the island, but also one of the most valuable, as it is a work by the Lanzarote artist César Manrique, integrating architecture and nature.

From the balcony itself and from the panoramic glass windows of the viewpoint, visitors can contemplate the Chinijo Archipelago, a group of islets formed by La Graciosa and the islets Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste, Alegranza, and Montaña Clara.

In addition, the space has a cafeteria to have a snack from the heights and with breathtaking views.

2. Mirador de Guinate

In the municipality of Haría, in the north, you will also find the Mirador de Guinate, from where you can see the Chinijo Archipelago from another perspective.

It is one of the most unknown and least crowded viewpoints, so you are likely to find fewer tourists, which will allow you to take photos with an enviable landscape without having to wait for someone to move.

To get there, you will have to follow the road that goes north, the LZ-10, and once you pass the town of Máguez, you will have to turn left onto La Majadita street and, at the end of the road, you will find the viewpoint.

In addition, the town of Guinate, and Haría in general, is a highly recommended place to visit in the winter to spring period, as after the rains the fields fill with colorful flowers and green dyes the volcanoes and hills of the area.

3. Mirador del Risco de Famara

This viewpoint is practically unmarked, but getting there is easier than it seems. Simply, you have to follow the LZ-10 road that connects Haría with Los Valles and once you reach the height of the Haría viewpoint, you will see a dirt road on the left with several small signs indicating the way to follow.

As it is not asphalted, the road tends to have many potholes, so it is important to go slowly during this part of the journey. After a few minutes, passing several houses, you will reach a crossroads with a sign, but you have to continue straight.

You will reach a kind of area where you can leave the car and from where you will have privileged views of the beach and the town of Famara, with volcanoes in the background and the imposing cliff at your feet.

Being more than 400 meters high, it is recommended to go on days with very good weather, as otherwise you may encounter many accumulated clouds and see nothing at all. Windy days can also be a drawback, because strong gusts could displace you, so it is advisable to proceed with caution.

4. Mirador del Bosquecillo

Right next to the Famara viewpoint is the popular Bosquecillo viewpoint. This tends to be more touristy, as it is signposted and you can find it on any map.

The path to the viewpoint is simple, once on the dirt road, when you reach the crossroads, instead of continuing straight, you should turn right, following the sign indicating the direction of El Bosquecillo.

After two minutes by car, you will reach a parking lot where you can leave your car. You will also see a small park located at the heights of the cliff and a picnic area, with breathtaking views of Famara beach, as well as the Chinijo Archipelago.

In addition, for the bravest, on the left side there is a kind of balcony where you can feel and witness the meters of height of the imposing cliff, as well as take some epic photos for the memory.

5. Mirador de Haría

Near these last two viewpoints is that of Haría, recently renovated, offering views from the heights of the small town that gives its name to this location.

To get there, just stop in a designated area next to the LZ-10 road that connects Haría with Los Valles, it is just to the right of the road that leads to El Bosquecillo.

Furthermore, a peculiarity of this viewpoint is that from it you can see “the witch of Haría” once night falls. It refers to the shape that the lit village lights take, in the form of a witch riding her broom.

6. Mirador de El Golfo

The south of Lanzarote also has viewpoints worth visiting, such as the mirador de El Golfo, one of the most touristy spots, but also one of the most original, as it looks like it’s from the planet Mars.

To get there, just park the car at the entrance to the village, in a dirt parking lot provided for this purpose, and follow the indicated path between reddish volcanic rocks and a black sand beach where waves crash forcefully against the shore.

Once at the top of the viewpoint, you can also observe the famous Charco de los Clicos, better known as “Lago Verde” (Green Lake), a name it gets from its greenish color caused by the type of algae found within it.

7. Los Hervideros

Finally, about a 10-minute drive south, you will find the mirador de los Hervideros, a rock formation where you can appreciate the voracity of the ocean crashing against the cliffs.

The area has several paths and stone balconies where you can lean out, all enabled so that anyone, including children, can enjoy this landscape, always accompanied by adults.

Unlike most recommendations for visiting Lanzarote's beaches and natural pools, the key to seeing this place is to take advantage of when the sea is rough, always with great caution.
