El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote fell 24-20 to C.BM. Morvedre at the René Marigil Pavilion, in a match corresponding to the third day of the play down. The Lanzarote team, erratic at the start, was hampered by its lack of offensive success and could not overcome the advantage gained by the Valencian team in the first half.
The start of the match was marked by Zonzamas' difficulties in finding the goal. Between the posts and the interventions of the local goalkeeper, Candelaria Cuadrado, the team only managed to score two goals in the first thirteen minutes, which allowed Morvedre to open an initial gap (4-1, min. 7). The local defense, very intense, complicated every visiting attack, while on the other side the locals found solutions with greater ease.
Coach Juan José Rivera was forced to call a timeout to reorganize the team, but the script of the match barely changed. Although Zonzamas managed to create shooting opportunities, the lack of accuracy continued to penalize them. Irene Botella scored from six meters (8-5, min. 19), but Morvedre maintained their solidity and extended their lead again (11-6, min. 24).
The final stretch of the first half confirmed the local superiority, with a Zonzamas that conceded too much in defense and could not translate its offensive game into goals. Thus, the match went into halftime with a clear 15-8.
After the restart, the match was tied. Zonzamas showed a better version, with more intensity and accuracy, which allowed them to partially reduce the difference. Gleinys Reyes, from seven meters, and Tatty Masseu from the wing brought the visitors closer (17-12, min. 36), in a stretch of greater balance and defensive toughness from both teams.
However, when it seemed that Zonzamas could get fully into the game, fatigue and turnovers reappeared. Morvedre knew how to manage its advantage and stop any attempt at a comeback, supported by its defense and control of the game's rhythm.
El Zonzamas tried with a seven-on-six play in the final minutes, looking to cut the deficit, but couldn't find continuity. In the final stretch, the "batateras" managed to make the score more respectable, leaving the final score at 24-20.
First defeat for Zonzamas in this phase, in a match conditioned by initial inaccuracy, although the team still has margin and options in the fight for permanence. The next match, which they will play at home against Aula Valladolid, will put two decisive points into play.
