El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote achieved a victory of enormous value after defeating Caja Rural Aula Valladolid 29-25 at the Pabellón Municipal de San Bartolomé, in a direct duel for permanence corresponding to the fourth matchday of the play down. A triumph that allows the Lanzaroteñas to leave the last position, surpass their rival, and depend on themselves in the final two matchdays.
The match started with a very focused Zonzamas, imposing a high rhythm from the beginning. With a firm defense and effective attacks, the locals quickly took the lead on the scoreboard (3-0, min. 3). Paula Fernández extended the lead (4-0, min. 4) and also caused the first exclusion for Aula, forcing the visiting coach to call a timeout in the 7th minute with a clear 6-1.
Aula reacted with a partial led by Inoa Lucio, reducing the differences to 7-5 in the 12th minute. However, Zonzamas did not let themselves be intimidated. With Valentina Menucci very solid under the posts and good collective work, they maintained control of the match (11-9, min. 21).
The final stretch of the first half became complicated for the locals. Imprecisions in attack allowed Aula to cut the deficit to a single goal (11-10, min. 26), which led Juan José Rivera to call a timeout. Despite this, the Valladolid team managed to equalize the match before halftime, which was reached with a score of 13-13.
The second half began with maximum equality and tension (17-16, min. 39). It was then that Zonzamas took a step forward. A counter-attack by Claudia Kaulback restored the two-goal advantage (19-17, min. 42), forcing Aula to stop the match.
The match became tougher, with defensive actions at the limit, and in the 47th minute, Aula suffered the direct disqualification of Polina Gorbatsjova after an action on a counter-attack (22-20). Ingrid Roger extended the lead to three goals in the 48th minute, giving the locals some breathing room.
In the final stretch, Zonzamas showed their best offensive version. With spaces in attack, they managed to open a gap to 25-21 in the 52nd minute, forcing Aula's last timeout. Even so, the visiting team reacted with two consecutive goals and managed to get within a single goal in the 57th minute.
It was then that Zonzamas showed its character. The defense held strong in the decisive moments and a key save by Alicia Robles tipped the scales of the match. The "batateras" knew how to manage the lead in the final moments to close the game with a final score of 29-25.
A victory of enormous importance that allows Zonzamas to take a step forward in the fight for permanence and face the last two matchdays depending on themselves.
