The Yaiza City Council congratulates Yonathan Umpiérrez Martín, an athlete from Playa Blanca and member of the Local Police of the municipality, who this Saturday revalidated his victory in the twenty-sixth edition of the Spanish Mountain Bike Championship for Local Police, held in Jerez de la Frontera, where he managed to be the first classified in the master 40 category and fifth overall among 300 participants from all over the country, using 1:31:05 hours for a distance of 36 kilometers in the tough and spectacular route proposed by the organization in Andalusian lands.
Yonathan Umpiérrez, with a card from the Triyaiza Sports Club, traveled to Jerez with the idea of achieving his "goal of the year", and he treasured it with merit. "I want to dedicate the triumph to my family, especially to my wife and three daughters, who accompany me in every race, to my Yaiza Local Police Headquarters and to the Triyaiza Club, without forgetting the Tripasion Lanzarote bike shop, which also helps me," says the happy runner, who last year also climbed to the top of the podium in the Spanish Championship that was hosted by the island of Gran Canaria.
Club colleagues and athletes from Lanzarote and the Canary Islands know about the discipline that Yonathan Umpiérrez imposes on himself for training and competition in MTB. Strict diet and six days of training every week, taking advantage of the free time that his work as a local police officer allows him and combining all his work and sports commitments with home life, which for 'Yoni', as his friends affectionately call him, is essential.
The Yaiza City Council, represented by the mayor and councilor responsible for the Local Police, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, publicly praises "the sporting career of Yonathan Umpiérrez and his impeccable performance in the service of our Yaiza Local Police. Yonathan is a great athlete and a better person, as all his neighbors recognize."
The Spanish Mountain Bike Championship for Local Police has the endorsement of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation and brings together top-level athletes every year. It is a test closed to the participation of members of the local police forces from all over Spain that is held annually in the midst of great expectation, where the name of Yaiza already appears prominently thanks to the good work of Yonathan Umpiérrez Martín.
