Spectacular day experienced by the participants of the Papagayo Beaches Crossing - Dreams Lanzarote Playa Dorada 2025, with more than 250 swimmers enjoying the tranquility of the waters of the south of the Island this Saturday from the first stroke, and the sporting spirit very present in this inclusive event that closed the open water swimming season in Lanzarote.
The first to plunge into the sea were the swimmers of the queen distance of 7 kilometers, transported to the coast off the beaches of Papagayo, in the heart of the Los Ajaches Natural Park. The start was at 09:05 hours and, after a demanding course, the victory in the men's non-wetsuit category went to Javier Segura Sánchez (independent) with a time of 1:45:48 h, followed by Eneko Saezmiera Abarrategui (Galea Ur Irekiak) with 1:47:04 and Alberto Pérez Díaz (CN Master Torrijos) with 1:57:08. In the women's non-wetsuit category, the winner was Esperanza Navarro Simon (Club Valenciano de Natación) with 2:07:24 h.
In the neoprene category, the fastest was Juan Carlos Vallejo Arroyo (CN Vulcania) with a brilliant time of 1:38:45 h, followed by Juan Luis Pérez Marín Benítez, 1:50:20, and Sergio Curbelo Guerra (CN Vulcania) with 1:53:06. Among the women with neoprene, the Berlin swimmer Cathleen Rund (SG Neukoelln Berlin) prevailed with 1:50:22, accompanied on the podium by Sandra Nieves Medina (independent) with 2:07:35 and Irene López de la Rosa (CN Alcobendas) with 2:07:40 h.
An hour later, it was the turn of the 4-kilometer distance, also starting in front of the Papagayo beaches, although closer to the Castillo del Águila and the Atlantic Museum, one of the great attractions of the route. In this distance, the best male without neoprene was Sergio Ramírez Morales (CD Nonadamos) with a time of 55:35 m, followed by Jonathan Angulo Villanueva (CN Vulcania) with 57:11 and José Luis Galindo (Metropole) with 58:56 m. In the women's category without neoprene, there was a beautiful tie at the top with Luz Marina Cabrera Ruiz (CN Vulcania) and Celia Pascual López (CN Master Torrijos), both with 1:09:57 h, while third place went to Nicole Winkler (CN Vulcania) with 1:10:46 h.
In the 4 km with neoprene, the winner was Adrián Suárez García (CN Las Palmas) with 55:37 m, followed by Juan Francisco Domínguez Rodríguez (independent) with 56:56 and Alexis León Suárez Guzmán (CD Belén María) with 56:57 m. In the women's category with neoprene, the victory went to Odile Larguier (independent) with 1:09:59 h, followed by Amapola Gutiérrez, 1:10:44, and Grego Matos Romero, time of 1:10:50 h.
Short Distances
Back in Playa Dorada, the public was able to enjoy the short races, starting with the 1,200-meter distance, where the conditions were spectacular and the atmosphere vibrant. In the men's category, the winner was Juan Pedro Cáceres Ferrer (independent) with 14:43 m, followed by Unai Hernández Curbelo (CD Nonadamos) with 14:55 and Andrés Cuello Torres (AC Training Lanzarote) with 15:15 m. In the women's category, the victory went to Natalia Emilia Sasu Bodarnea (Nadamas) with 16:06 m, ahead of Ana Barneto Cortés (independent) with 17:54 and Michaela Lochmann (Tenerife Masters) with 18:09 m.
Later, it was the turn of the youngest participants with the 800-meter alevín category, where two great promises of Lanzarote swimming shone: Adrián Sánchez Rodríguez (CD Nonadamos), who won the men's event with 10:17 m, and Martina Martín Peraza (Nadamas), female winner with 11:07 m. Next, the 400 and pre-benjamín events were held, as well as the inclusive category, with the support of the Department of Social Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and the La Caixa Foundation, which promotes the integration and accessibility of all participants, reaffirming that sport is a powerful tool for social inclusion. It was a highlight and full of emotion, with starts and finishes that once again reminded us that these great warriors of life demonstrate in each stroke that everything is possible if you want it.
The day concluded with the most fun and participatory event, the 3x200 meter relays, in which the Sinadamos team, made up of Nerea, Sergio, and Joaquín, took the victory with a time of 5:59.
B15 Active, the organizers of this event, gave special thanks to the volunteers and the rescue, lifeguard, and healthcare personnel, who ensured the safety of the swimmers throughout the competition.
The awards ceremony, presided over by the Councilor for Sports of the Yaiza City Council, Ángel Lago, the Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, the event director of the Hotel Dreams Lanzarote Playa Dorada, Abraham García, and the president of the AlanEM Association, Monique Meine, put the finishing touch to a new edition of this event that is once again consolidating itself as one of the most beloved races on the island calendar. The charity lunch held at the Hotel Dreams Lanzarote Playa Dorada was the culmination of a day marked by the good atmosphere, sportsmanship, and the spirit of overcoming challenges that characterizes the Playas de Papagayo Crossing.
