El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote could not debut with a victory in their second season in the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola. The Batatero team fell this Wednesday 22-19 against Elda Prestigio in the Pabellón Ciudad de Elda-Florentino Ibáñez, in a match marked by the offensive difficulties of the Lanzaroteñas.

The start was marked by an intense duel under the posts. Marília Correia opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with an outside shot, but Elda responded quickly from the pivot. The locals found more continuity in their attacks while Zonzamas hit the rival goal again and again.

With the Alicante team ahead, Maria Monllor appeared to keep the visitors in the game and put the score at 5-4 in the 11th minute. However, Elda took advantage of an exclusion and a seven-meter throw to open a small gap. At 7-4 in the 15th minute, Sergio Hernández called his first timeout.

Zonzamas improved their defensive performance and began to find more solutions in attack. A left-handed shot from Gleinys Reyes reduced the deficit and, in the final stretch of the first period, the Batatero team pushed to reach halftime with options. The scoreboard reflected a hopeful 10-9.

After the break, Elda once again injected intensity into their defense and found greater success in attack. Agda Rafaela, from seven meters, made it 13-9 in the 5th minute and the locals extended their lead. Furthermore, Gassama became one of the biggest obstacles for the Batatero attack, with several saves that prevented Zonzamas from reducing the distance.

The Lanzaroteño team then went through its worst minutes and, at 16-11 in the 13th minute, the match began to get uphill. At 19-14 on the scoreboard, Sergio Hernández stopped the match again to try to change the dynamic.

But Zonzamas did not give up. Elda also could not definitively close the match and the Lanzaroteñas were reducing the differences in the final stretch. At 21-18 in the 28th minute, Sergio Hernández opted for 7 against 6 and advanced the defense to seek a final reaction. The strategy allowed Zonzamas to get within two goals, 21-19, and forced Elda to call a timeout in the 29th minute. In the last visiting attempt, the local team managed to defend their lead and Malena Valles sealed the match with eight seconds left, establishing the final 22-19.

The Lanzarote team thus begins the competition without a prize, but with a demanding first experience that makes clear the room for growth of a renewed team that will have to continue working to turn its good moments of play into results.

With no time for rest, the team will have a new high-demand commitment this Saturday, September 12, hosting the reigning League and Super Cup champion, Rocasa Gran Canaria. A derby that promises excitement and competitiveness to continue the path in the league.
